Unit Cools Heavy Duty Engines During Tests

November 15th, 2005

Vehicle Research and Development (VRD) recently introduced an all new heavy duty engine test cooling unit. The unit is designed for use in testing heavy truck, agricultural, and construction equipment.

VRD Test Cooling Unit

The engine cooling unit uses a pressure vessel tank as its structural base, giving customers the ability to store the engine coolant right inside the unit. This alleviates the need for a separate containment and fill system when setting up a test cell.

Another feature of the unit is its modular design. This design easy to modify and size for specific test system requirements. System controls are similarly flexible–controls can be as basic or as complex as the customer wants.

Another benefit of the design is the ease in which the end user is able to add heat rejection capacity. The unit was built to allow for a various sizes of heat exchangers from small, lower volume to larger volume capacities. Users can easily add or subtract cooling and volume capacity as needed.

The VRD engine cooling unit was originally designed for a large agricultural equipment customer, who requested an easy to use unit with simple controls and mobility from test cell to test cell. The new unit has swivel mount leveling casters to allow simple movement on the shop floor.
