The Nation reports:
The Industry Ministry and Thailand Automotive Institute plans to propose the new government to turn the Bt6 billion excise taxes collected from the automotive industry last year for the development of a car test centre and a testing field. Industry Permanent Secretary Chakramon Phasukavanich said on Thursday that both testing field and testing centre are necessary if the government really wants to promote this industry.
At the press conference on Thursday, after the public hearing on the auto industry development master for 2007-2011, Chakramon said the government should take a lead in this development which would support the launch of new models of auto companies in Thailand.
“Importantly, this project will strengthen our automotive and autoparts industries in the long run and is in line with the Industry Ministry’s intellectual property and productivity plans,” he said.
Last year, the government collected Bt55.9 billion in auto excise taxes.
