New sensor offers self-test
A new automotive digital accelerometer platform is now available for single and multiple axis acceleration and inclination measurement. It has been developed to meet the most demanding needs of vehicle electronic systems using digital signal processing, introducing several important safety features such as continuous self-test.
The components form a complete set of low-g accelerometers with the same mechanical design and SPI-interface. They are small in size, high in performance and require only one PCB design for all versions. They cover acceleration and inclination measurements in applications like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assistant (HSA), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Roll Stability, Roll Over and Electrically Controlled Suspension. The multiple options for each car platform can be covered with one ECU or sensor cluster design by selecting the appropriate sensor version from VTI’s new accelerometer Series.
A major application area for the new accelerometers is in the sensor cluster needed for ESC. For more information, visit the VTI website.
VTI to Sell Auto Sensor Business
VTI Technologies Oy and international automotive supplier Continental have agreed on the sale of VTI’s current automotive sensor module business. The annual net sales of the business to be transferred are 7 million euros. The agreement will come to effect by October 31, 2006 and it is subject to acceptance by the German antitrust authorities.
“VTI’s focus and core business in automotive is the design and manufacturing of acceleration and pressure sensor elements and components. Compared to that, sensor module design and assembly require different technical and manufacturing expertise. Also the business model for sensor modules is different, including direct business with the automotive OEMs with special requirements also in logistics”, states Hannu Martola, CEO, VTI Technologies Oy.
