It occurs to me that it would be a good thing to be aware of what’s going on on the consumer side of things. That is, engineers should know how consumer organizations are testing their products and correlate those tests to the tests they run.
With that in mind, I’ve just come across two articles that discuss consumer testing. The first is from Modern Tire Dealer and covers the tire testing done by Consumers Report. Titled, “Tires tested tough: Consumer Reports completes UHP testing following forum,” it describes How Consumer Reports tested 36 UHP tires.
The second ran in the Modesto Bee. (I love the name of that paper, don’t you?) Titled, ” Consumer Reports: Newer lead-acid car batteries are powerful, but expensive,” it describes Consumer Reports’ latest tests of 23 auto batteries.
