Machine Tests How Tires React to Loads

August 29th, 2005

The Load/Deflection Test Machine is designed to test how tires react under various types of loads, from the expected to the excessive. It can supply radial loading up to 100,000 pounds, lateral loading to 50,000 pounds, and torsional loading to 15,000 pounds.

The test machine can accommodate a tire/wheel assembly from 10- to 24-inches wide and up to 60-inches in diameter. Other features include a 36-inch by 36-inch loading platform, PLC/computer for data collection and storage and manual or automated step mode operation. The machine will also record data on radial load and deflection, lateral/torsional force and deflection and tire/wheel assembly deflection, displaying the testing parameters on a digital display.

For more information, contact Standards Testing Laboratories at 1845 Harsh Avenue, S.E., Massillon, Ohio, 44648; call 800-833-8547 or visit the STL website.
